On August 3rd, the 2025 Yili Guangdong Football Super League (referred to as "the league") held its launch ceremony in Guangzhou, officially announcing that this year's season will kick off on August 9th. By the end of June, a total of 26 teams had registered for the league, 18 more than last year,marking a 225% increase. After qualification reviews, 22 teams were confirmed for this season, including 17 newcomers. The 22 participating teams represent 13 of Guangdong's 21 prefecture-level cities, reaching a coverage rate of 61% across the province.

The league also serves as the Guangdong regional qualifier for the 2026 Chinese Football Association (CFA) Member Association Champions League (CMCL). To align with the CMCL format, the competition is divided into two stages: the preliminary round and the main round.

The 17 new teams will join the qualification stage, drawn into five groups of three or four. Each group will play a single round-robin, with the top two in each group and the best third-placed team overall advancing. The 11 qualifiers will then join five teams from the 2024 season to form a 16-team main round.

To maintain the league's amateur nature and ensure fair play, players registered for this year's Chinese Super League, China League One, China League Two, or the CFA Futsal Super League, as well as U19-U21 club competitions, are barred from participation. Each team may, however, register up to three players from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, with a maximum of two allowed on the pitch simultaneously.
