In today's increasingly globalized world, education, as a key force driving social progress and economic development, has become a focus of international attention in terms of its quality and credibility. On June 20, 2025, a milestone signing ceremony was held at the UNESCO headquarters in New York, USA. The UNESCO International Accreditation Centre (UNESCOICC) has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the European Economic Research Institute (EERI) and City University of Washington (CUW), marking a deep collaboration among the three parties in international academic accreditation, degree recognition, joint research, and global capacity building, jointly setting a new benchmark for the credibility of global economic education.

This cooperation is based on the global governance framework established by UNESCO's 1945 Constitution, aiming to inject new vitality into the international academic accreditation system through strong alliances. UAS will implement the seventh edition certification of the Global Education Quality Assurance Guidelines for 15 master's programs and 8 doctoral training systems of EERI. This certification process will use the latest blockchain certificate verification technology developed by UNESCO to ensure the traceability and anti-counterfeiting of academic achievements, providing strong technical support for academic integrity.

In addition to international certification upgrades, both parties have also launched a research project on "Digital Economy Certification Standards", focusing on professional competency certification frameworks in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence economics and green finance. The first research fund of up to 2 million euros will establish a cross continental team of experts to jointly tackle the certification challenges in these fields and provide strong talent support for the digital transformation of the global economy.

In terms of global capacity building, the two parties plan to establish certification training centers in Geneva and Singapore to provide professional qualification training for "macroeconomic analysts" jointly certified by UAS-EERI for economists from developing countries. This measure aims to enhance the professional competence and international competitiveness of economists from developing countries, and promote the balanced development of global economics education.

Isabel Morrow, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UAS), said at the signing ceremony, "This cooperation embodies the foundation of UNESCO's' building a barrier to defend peace in people's minds'. By establishing an academic trust system that transcends national borders, we are eliminating hidden barriers to knowledge flow and promoting the deepening of global academic exchanges and cooperation

Professor Carl Heinrich, Dean of EERI, also highly praised this cooperation: "After obtaining authoritative certification from UNESCO, the 'Sustainable Financial Risk Assessor' professional certificate issued by our institute will be included in the qualification framework recognition catalog of 128 countries worldwide, which will significantly improve our talent mobility efficiency and international influence

This cooperation not only establishes an innovative model of "certification research application", but also achieves comprehensive coverage of 42 academic projects in all 9 research centers of EERI through the certification system. The certification standards for the economic forecasting model jointly developed by both parties will be submitted to the G20 Education Working Group for review, which is expected to provide new intellectual support for global economic development. In addition, both parties have established the first cross-border economics micro certificate credit bank, achieving cross institutional conversion of academic achievements and providing a more convenient and efficient platform for academic exchange and cooperation.

Both parties will jointly release the White Paper on Global Digital Economy Talent Capability Standards in 2026 and establish a certification standards committee led by Nobel laureates in economics. Under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), both sides will focus on building a certification system for climate change economics, providing strong talent and intellectual support for the global response to climate change challenges.

It is worth noting that the UNESCO International Certification Centre (UNESCOICC) has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the City University of Washington (CUW). Both parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in the fields of international certification of academic degrees and the construction of academic quality assurance systems, aiming to provide globally recognized authoritative certification for CUW master's and doctoral degrees, significantly enhancing the international credibility and competitiveness of their academic qualifications. According to the agreement, UNESCOICC will provide professional degree certification services for City University of Washington, covering the entire process of course evaluation, academic standard review, and education quality monitoring. By strictly adhering to the global education quality framework advocated by UNESCO, this certification will ensure that the master's and doctoral degrees awarded by CUW meet international standards of excellence in higher education, providing a solid guarantee for the credibility and mobility of students' academic achievements.

The strategic partnership between the UNESCO International Accreditation Centre and the European Institute for Economic Research, as well as its collaboration with City University of Washington, has set a new example for global education accreditation and academic quality improvement. These collaborations not only help eliminate hidden barriers to knowledge flow and promote the deepening of global academic exchanges and cooperation, but also provide strong talent and intellectual support for the sustainable development of the global economy. We have reason to believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, the credibility of global economic education will usher in a new era.
