As June begins, Chenghai, a district of Shantou, known as "China's capital of toys and gifts", has entered full "battle mode." As the origin of nearly one-third of the world's plastic toys, lots of toy manufacturers in Chenghai are working busily to fulfill overseas orders for the Christmas season and Black Friday.

"Our family has been engaged in the foreign trade of toys since 1987. At first, our clients were only from Russia and Ukraine, but now our products have been sold to more than 120 countries and regions," said Zeng Weina, a representative of companies in Chenghai. ChengJi Toys is a typical microcosm of many toy companies in Chenghai. By continuously expanding new markets, their clientele now spans Europe, America, South America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

In recent years, to mitigate uncertainties in international trade, Chenghai companies have accelerated their internationalization pace. In addition to attending the Canton Fair and the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, they have also embraced online platforms such as ICBU to diversify market risks. "Thanks to market diversification, we now have a stronger ability to resist risks," Zeng noted. She also revealed that after the Canton Fair finished, the company received a steady stream of buyers from the UK, Qatar, Africa, and Lebanon.

Today, Chenghai is undergoing rapid intelligent transformation, from automated warehouses and "dark factories" to flexible production lines with fully digitalized modular. So far, 175 companies in the district have completed digital upgrades, and products like building blocks and Rubik's cubes have largely achieved intelligent manufacturing. According to official data, in 2024, the total industrial output of Chenghai's toy sector exceeded 50 billion yuan, with an export volume of over 10.24 billion yuan.
