Born and raised in the countryside, photographer and high school geography teacher Zhang Huijuan has been photographing weddings in rural areas in Hebei Province and Shandong Province since 2021, documenting the evolution of these ceremonies under the influence of economic development and urbanization.

Her works capture the clash between modernity and tradition, such as the contrast between a new-style white wedding dress and a traditional red background, showing different symbols of rural weddings. Zhang Huijuan sees the integration of three basic colors in rural weddings: the traditional red, the modern white, and the rural green, reflecting the cultural differences across generations.
