“What was once a desolate landscape of desert and transmission towers during our power line patrols has now been transformed into a blue ocean, teeming with a constant flow of green energy destined for distant places.” Yang Zhiguo, an employee of the State Grid Ningxia Zhongwei Power Supply Company, remarked on this dramatic change while inspecting transmission lines in the Tengger Desert recently.

The Ningxia Tengger Desert New Energy Base is a crucial part of China’s first UHV power transmission project, focused on delivering renewable energy from large “sandy, Gobi, and wasteland” wind and solar power bases - the ±800 kV Ningxia-Hunan UHV DC project (“Ning Power Enters Hunan”). Stepping into the base is like entering an indigo blue ocean. The first phase covers nearly 30,000 mu (about 2,000 hectares) and includes over 2.2 million photovoltaic panels, extending across the sand dunes and generating a constant supply of green power.

Since the start of this year, State Grid Ningxia Zhongwei Power Supply Company has actively pursued a specialized campaign focused on the grid integration and consumption of new energy, carefully tracking and documenting the grid connection status of priority projects, including the national large sandy, Gobi, and wasteland bases and “source-grid-load-storage” initiatives. The company has established a new grid management model adapted for integrating multi-type and large-scale new energy sources. They also provide high-quality and efficient grid connection services for the large “sandy, Gobi, and wasteland” new energy bases, including source-grid-load-storage and new energy storage systems. This spurs the creation of model new energy stations featuring standardized management, operational stability, and accurate forecasting. To address the grid connection risks associated with various entities such as source-grid-load-storage systems and green power parks, they have deepened policy research and ensured precise execution. This enables comprehensive compliance control throughout all business processes, including grid connection and testing, fostering the high-quality development of local new energy.
