Nestled within the urban district of Nagoya, amidst an area that still retains a faint trace of the Showa era's ambiance, stands "Fukikaze no Ie," crafted by the hands of Teshima Yasushi. Originally the site of a row house, it has since undergone division and renovation. The houses along this street all feature front gardens and are designed with a setback style. This residence is no exception, boasting a garden in front of the entrance and a setback design.
Stepping inside, one can sense the "sense of continuity" ingeniously created by the split-level design. Now, let's delve deeper into this residence.
Split-Level Design on the First Floor
From the exterior of the residence, there appears to be a change in the exterior wall style midway up. At first glance, it might seem like the boundary between the first and second floors. However, in reality, the first-floor portion has been excavated downward by approximately 750 millimeters, creating a semi-basement space. This area is used for a bedroom and a storage room. The exterior wall at the intermediate floor level has been replaced, and this intermediate floor is constructed with a reinforced concrete structure, while the upper part features a wooden frame structure.
The intermediate floor houses the living room and dining room, while the second floor is designated as the children's bedrooms. Light pours down from the open-plan area, illuminating the interior and making it bright and airy.
Split-Level Design Connecting Spaces
The family residing in this residence consists of four members: a couple and two elementary school-aged children. The husband, who is a designer, works from home. Therefore, this residence also serves the function of a studio. It is essential to have a space where one can concentrate on work, but at the same time, it is equally important for family members to be able to sense each other's presence.
In this design, the entire residence adopts a split-level design. Starting from the bedroom and storage room in the semi-basement, it is sequentially connected to the dining room, kitchen, and living room, and then leads to the children's bedrooms on the second floor. The air conditioning system is also arranged along this continuous spatial layout. A staircase is centrally located, running through all the floors. This design not only ensures the rationality of the space but also allows family members to feel each other's presence, making it a residence that is closely connected on a spiritual level.
Vaulted Ceiling that Lets in and Diffuses Light
The roof adopts an upgraded version of the hybrid truss structure previously developed. During the construction process, the client inquired whether it was possible to construct the frame structure solely using wood. After discussion, it was ultimately decided to use curved cedar boards instead of steel in the tension areas. At the same time, structural plywood is inserted between the cedar boards and the roof beams to transfer shear forces.
Although this structure causes a certain degree of bending in the upper chord members, it has the advantage of simplifying the construction of connection nodes. By utilizing the ceiling space of the gable roof, a rational frame structure has been achieved. The ceiling design allows soft light to circulate indoors, brightly illuminating the entire room. The curved ceiling adds a touch of softness to the entire residence.
Interior with a Calm and Elegant Color Scheme
The interior is mainly decorated in white and deep brown, creating a calm and serene atmosphere. The handrails and staircase are made of round copper materials, which not only serve as safety protection but also act as the finishing touch in the space design, enhancing the overall sense of refinement.
A Residence that Promotes Family Emotional Communication
On the south side of the living room, there is a large window that offers a panoramic view of the greenery in the garden. The protruding part at the bottom of the window can also introduce natural light and a gentle breeze. This residence, which helps to strengthen family relationships, may provide some inspiration for us in our pursuit of an ideal home.
dwellings with skipped floors that bring internal diversity and connection to the green space outside,tamagawa-jo sui was built by the shogunate in the 17th century to transport water to the center of the city.the greenery area along the canal hanal HD bed bed protected through generations till now.it gives a pleasant environment with a clear stream to the surrounding area.this project is to design a ha where this tamagawa jo sui flows to the north side of the site
In planning the house, the idea was to open up the living space connecting to this northern side of the house to enjoy the greenery beyond。
The front yard has been arranged in parallel to this beautiful landscape by the water, giving relief to the residence.the first-floor level was set approximately 70 cm above the street level, to give different eye level from the people passing by the house.this allows the house to maintain privacy.
" one room " is the concept of the houp he house has six stories, and the steel staircase in the center of the house is organizing these stories.each story is connected with level gaps, having its originality with a nice distance.it is giving various views as well.another benefit is that having a few fittings made this his hous bece becouse becouse
