On May 15, the State Grid Jiyuan Power Supply Company organized a special patrol of power infrastructure in the deep mountainous areas of Shaoyuan, Wangwu, Dayu, and surrounding regions. The initiative focused on identifying and eliminating potential hazards while implementing safety measures tailored to local topography and terrain, including wind resistance, lightning protection, and rockfall prevention. These efforts aim to ensure the safe operation of the power grid and the reliable supply of electricity.

Mountainous terrain constitutes a significant portion of Jiyuan’s landscape, with power facilities often traversing steep mountains, dense forests, and rugged gorges. These complex operating environments, combined with the recent surge in severe wind conditions, pose considerable challenges to safe power supply. In response, the State Grid Jiyuan Power Supply Company has refined its strategies and implemented targeted measures to build a robust “safety net” for power infrastructure in mountainous areas.

Guided by the principles of integrated inspection and repair, lean operations and maintenance, and safety assurance, the company aligned its work with ongoing spring inspections and preparations for peak summer electricity demand. Responsibilities were assigned to specialized personnel, and inspection measures were implemented by zone, section, and equipment type. Enhanced patrols focused on transmission and distribution line status, surrounding environmental conditions, and power corridors. Identified risks were addressed through a closed-loop management system of “registration, reporting, dispatch, resolution, and archiving,” ensuring timely remediation and comprehensive elimination of hazards. Over the past month, the company has inspected 77 transmission lines at 35 kV and above, 169 10 kV distribution lines, and more than 2,500 power supply stations—resolving 102 identified safety hazards.

In light of the increased frequency of strong winds and thunderstorms during the spring-to-summer transition, the company proactively evaluated potential threats to grid security posed by complex terrain and severe weather. Adhering to the approach of “implementing tailored plans for each line and specific strategies for each distribution area”, measures were taken such as clearing obstructions from power corridors, reinforcing pole foundations, and unblocking drainage systems. These efforts have significantly improved the grid’s resilience against natural disasters, including wind, lightning, and heavy rainfall.

In addition, the company took advantage of equipment inspections and power service visits to educate the public on the protection of power infrastructure. It promoted awareness of safety precautions for outdoor construction, excavation, and fire use. These efforts fostered a collaborative safety environment, strengthening the “protective net” around power infrastructure and securing the safe operation of the power grid.(By Li Jianguo)
